Quite simply, Favor Native was born when our owner and lead designer ran out of space in her own yard, but couldn’t stop dreaming about new gardens.

I bet you thought I was going to talk about my pink rose verbena, didn’t you? Nope, I wanted to share my newfound appreciation for the “weed” wood sorrel - the yellow beauty in these images. Many folks are looking for low growing, tidy, cheerful, greens early in spring, nectar filled, moth host plants and pay good 💰💰 for them. Wood sorrel is all of these things and likely grows free in your garden already. Or, it will soon if you leave a bit of disturbed space open. Honestly I’ve weeded it religiously in previous years, but I’ve decided to let some garden magic happen and see where it goes. I do thin the population as needed, but for right now, I’m enjoying this bit of garden grace.

Nodding prairie onion is headed into this container with snapdragons. I don’t think a container has ever been done quite like this before 😋but, the onion was FREE from my own ready collection of volunteers. In my container trials, Prairie onion survives both winter (when temps have dropped to the negative teens) and high hot dry summer with a somewhat neglectful waterer such as myself.
New #cortensteel garden bed heading to my garden! It’s time for my well loved and most-inquired-about willow panels to be retired. The new steel bed will age nicely in place and be extremely low to no maintenance going forward.

Another successful “natives in containers” experiment! White sage, Artemisia ludoviciana, from my friends @native_plants_unlimited, successfully lived all last summer and through the winter, flourishing in grow bags from my friend @cultuvate Now this sage gets upgraded “digs” in a #cortensteel bowl. This variety is different from the native southwest white sage (Salvia spp) and is native to my more Midwest region.
Wild geranium loves you. You should love it back. It greens up early in spring, has wonderful pink flowers, then is a clump of green until frost. I keep finding ways to sneak it into all my borders, and love to put it at the base of shrubs.
